As any avid scrapbooker knows, paper storage can be a real problem. Especially since many individuals that enjoy this craft will pick up papers on a whim. If there is a great page, accessory, sticker, or other item that catches the eye, most won’t think twice about picking it up. This happens even when there is no idea how the page will be used. This is because many times pages are only available temporarily and good paper may not be there when you are ready to use it.

By stocking up on supplies ahead of time, it makes scrapbooking easier and quicker. Whenever the individual is ready to work, they have all the supplies they need and don’t have to run out and look for them. The problem is with trying to store all these items.

Scrapbook paper storage can be difficult, especially since many scrapbooks come in squares such as 8X8 or 12X12. This makes traditional paper storing methods impossible. However, with the right tools and accessories, these pages can be stored safely without ruining them. One option for storage is wall mounted shelves. These are similar to the shelves found in many craft stores that display the paper right on the wall. This is ideal if you have a room or area that is dedicated to the craft. However, these papers will still be exposed to light, moisture, and other elements.

Other scrapbook paper storage options include accordion style file folders. These folders stretch open to allow easy storage without ripping or tearing the paper. They are found in many craft stores and can store up to 500 sheets of paper. Then they can be stored neatly on a desk or bookshelf, under the bed, or in any nook or cranny you can fit it. Since they buckle shut there is no worry that they will spill out. They can also be used to store embellishments, cutouts, card stock, and other paper items in one easy convenient location.

Another fantastic option is using plastic paper organizers. These are similar to page protectors that are used in binders. While they don’t clip into a binder, these protectors are great for placing papers and then storing them on a shelf. For those that like to purchase packs of theme pages, the paper organizers offer an area to place labels. These are a fantastic option to protect the paper, save space, and organize the paper for ease of use.  Placed within easy reach of the project area, these can cut down on time.

Nothing is worse than looking for the perfect paper to compliment your theme and finding out it is ripped or torn. That is why scrapbook paper storage is so important. Square sheets of paper can be difficult to store but there are options available. Now pages can be organized easily so that they can be found quickly and used when they are needed. With label options there is no need to peruse several folders or cabinets for one sheet. Just place like themes in the organizer together, label, and then finding them is a snap.

Technology has swept over our society and the scrapbooking industry is not to be left out.  We have electonic gadgets that do many things, but none are more popular than the electronic die cutting machines.  There are several to choose from with similarities and various prices.  I will be talking about the Cricut system and it's companion, the Gypsy.

I love the cricut and all the variety of cartridges.  Like many people, I was hooked on "the bug" instantly.  I received my Cricut Expression just 2 years ago for my birthday as a surprise from my husband.  He bought it and then brought it to a big crop I was at.  It was my first crop and I was pretty excited already, but when I opened my new toy it was awesome.  It made a big impression too, as I was among the first people at that crop to get the "big bug" as it is called.  Many had the smaller "baby bug".

My Cricut has been used to cut out letters and shapes for projects for school, 4H, church, scouts and of course, scrapbooking and card making.  I have taught myself the basics of cutting as well as using the markers to draw with.  I hope to experiment with vinyl and glass etching soon.  My Cricut Expression has proven to be an indispensable tool for myself and my household.

There was an email I received in August of 2009 that literally changed my life and the way I use my Cricut.  And by the way my "big bug" is big brother to my "baby bug now".  The email in question was from Michaels and it was introducing a new product from Provo Craft, makers of the Cricut.  Michaels was now taking pre-orders for the soon to be released Gypsy.  I watched the promo video on my laptop, turning it up just loud enough to catch my hubby's attention.  He watched the video and was impressed and said, "I guess that would make a pretty good 15th anniversary gift, huh?". (also, Christmas and birthday). He went to Michael's the next day to order it and was the first in our area to do so. Oh, we are so cutting edge!  This new gadget was small, lightweight (shaped much like a Playstation Portable) and I would be able to take it anywhere so I could make designs at the tap of the screen.

The big day finally arrived for me to pick up my Gypsy from the store.  I could barely get it home fast enough so I could learn how to use it and start to make my "amazing" projects.  I have to say I was a little shocked when I opened it and there was no users manual and it also didn't say anything in the box about a website where you could download a copy.

Finally after some Googling for information and quick checks on Michael's and the Cricut message board, I was downloading my vast collection of cartridges to my Gypsy.  The downloading process was pretty quick and easy.  Just plug in the cartridge into the adapter and then into the Gypsy and a few taps of the screen and all the info. was at my fingertips.  This cute, lightweight portable design studio was ready to go!

There were a few bugs to be worked out on Provo Craft's end.  Each time they added a downloadable update, my new little toy became more and more user friendly.  Since all of my cartridges are loaded on, I can now search for a shape or a phrase right on the Gypsy.  I have to say this is one of my favorite features.  I have discovered, however that some common words are misspelled in the system and that hinders the process, but I hope they will fix that soon.

Another one of great features is that the need for toting all of my cartridges, boxes and keyboard overlays has been eliminated.  This may be my favorite thing because I now have over 70 cartridges in my collection. Coupled with the search feature,  I no longer have to flip through 70 books to see what cartridge has my desired shape or phrase on it.

I will say that after owning and using this new item for nearly 6 months, I am not the least bit sorry that I have it.  I use my Cricut more than I ever did before.  I have made entire albums using Cricut shapes, letters and phrases almost as an exclusive embellishment on pages.  I have a much less smaller desire to buy stickers now too.  I know that there is so much more to learn and create and it will definitely be the gift that keeps on giving.

One of my favorite scrapbook products to work with is die-cuts. They are inexpensive, available in almost every theme and by every company, and each package usually has a good variety of shapes and designs.

My personal favorite brand for die-cuts is K & Company, so I was really excited to work with there new Valentine’s package. I have used the die-cuts lots of times, and love how much comes in that package. Everything also coordinates with their paper lines and other products. I picked these up at Target, but you can find a large selection of K & Company products and TwoPeasInABucket.com and Scrapbook.com. I was able to finish 2 layouts and 3 cards, and still had a ton of pieces left for other things.

The first thing I noticed was the “Sweet Thing” title and all the candy and hearts. We recently had heart shaped cookies at the mall, and these were perfect for the page.

One of the most important parts of a scrapbook is your scrapbook cover. This is an opportunity to show your scrapbook theme right on the front and also to add things that may not have fit in the inside décor of the scrapbook. You may spend a great deal of time working on your scrapbook and you want to keep it in good condition for many years to come.

The best way to do this is to create a great cover that will protect all of your special memories for a long time to come. In addition to the cover you will want to follow the proper preservation techniques to keep your scrapbook and its cover in good condition for many years.
When it comes to covers for your scrapbook, there are different types to choose from. For example, you can make a cloth covering for your scrapbook which is a bit like placing it inside a cloth bag that you have specially decorated for the theme of the scrapbook.

You can make this yourself by measuring out cloth in the size to fit your scrapbook and then sewing it together, leaving an opening for your scrapbook to fit inside. You can make flaps that will hold onto the scrapbook cover and hold the sides together.

Another option for your scrapbook cover is a clear plastic cover. These are easy to buy or make and they can fit right over your scrapbook to protect it from dents, dust and more. You won’t have to hem a plastic cover which also makes them quicker and easier to use and they can be decorated on the outside as well if you want.

Here are some additional tips for protecting your scrapbook cover:

• Store your scrapbook sitting up instead of lying down
• Never stack things on top of your scrapbook
• Store your scrapbook in a safe place away from sharp items that can scratch it
• Don’t leave your scrapbook out when it is not in use
• Consider storing your scrapbooks in a fireproof safe so they will always remain in good condition

With these tips you can protect your scrapbook cover to help keep your scrapbook in good condition.
