I have always been inspired and eager to try this fun technique: Paper stitching ! I have made many pages and cards using handwritten stitching so this week I took my love for this stitch look to a new level to  sewing machine stitching. For some scrapper this may a breeze but for others this may be the new technique you need to learn for the week either way I hope you enjoy and find it helpful. Let's get started !

Supplies I used:

Sewing Machine ~ Sew Crafty Mini by Provo Craft

Pattern papers ~ Bo Bunny

Coordinating Cardstock ~ Bazzill

Stick and rub on title

Adhesive

Photos

Now first things first: it is best that when you plan your layout look at you paper and photos a line them where you would like them to go before adding adhesive or sewing them to your background. For my layout I started with my base (background cardstock) and layered my pattern paper pieces that coordinated well and matched my pages theme. Double-sided sheet works well with the technique of layering sheets this way you can alternate patterns and not worry if they coordinate well or not.

Next I started to adhere my paper pieces by adding adhesive only to the middle of my papers away from the edge of the base where I intend to sew my stitching. Reason being you ask? Well with machine stitching  you will need  to add a little to prevent your layers from slipping or buckling, on the other hand the adhesive cause the needle to become sticking or damaged for future use.  This is another reason you should plan you page before adhering your papers to your background.

Before we begin let's discuss sewing machines, for this project I used Provo crafts Sew craft mini machine so my stitching patterns and option are very simple.  After using it for this project I would only recommend this machine for cards and thins layers of papers. Now if you own a more diverse machine your stitching options are much wider to use but weather you are a skilled seamstress or just a beginner I would recommend a Janome sew mini. This machine is compact and is very easy to use see a demo here, I would saw it is excellent for a paper crafter's need to sew on their projects.

After you have your machine set to the setting and stitching of chose lets begin to stitch our page, my stitching on my page is not straight but I love the look you get when you use different kinds of stitching on the same design. So Don't be afraid to experiment! I prefer the double stitch and out of order look again you can stitch as much or as little as you like. The straight stitch and zig-zag are the most commonly used  when sewing. Now onto your sewing simply start sewing by lowering your presser foot and start sewing.I continued my stitching around my page creating a frame look that worked perfectly with my page. From here you can add your photos and finishing embellishment for a fabulous layout.

One of the attractions for many scrapbook artists is that the craft incorporates both art and creativity with your personal stories about your life and even your family's. For many scrapbookers, one of the essential projects to undertake is the scrapbook album for your baby. Not only will it commemorate your precious little one, but it is an exciting work of progress that can be updated with each major event of your child's life from infancy to adulthood. Some baby scrapbooks contain not only locks of the child's hair; but even the graduation diploma from college, or the wedding invitation when your child gets married. Eventually, this project could be one of the most endearing gifts you can give to your child.

Begin with themes: For effective first baby scrapbooking layout ideas, first pick a theme. With scrapbooking, the entire world is a source of ideas. While your specific theme may be your baby, make the design more exciting by adding subthemes. For instance, for your baby boy you can mix baby themes with sporty themes like baseball or other sports. For your baby girl, you can incorporate a princess theme to make the scrapbook album extra special.

Make comprehensive layouts: Once the theme is established, choose a comprehensive layout that can be used for many design options. An important thing to remember with a first baby scrapbook layout idea is that these projects can take years to complete. Hence, it is vital that your layout should be able to accommodate various designs. Do not choose layouts which are too complex and which fill up the pages with too many details; because this may put restraints on adding photographs of different sizes in the future.

Non-intrusive designs: One technique to create simple and multi-purpose layouts for your project is to use non-intrusive designs. For instance, choose layouts whose borders are well decorated so that the rest of the page is free for whatever you wish to do with it. Use paper edgers to create simple but catchy borders and hole punchers to give the layout a uniform look without compromising too much space. Another option to look into is the creative use of ribbons as borders and frames for photographs and other scrapbook elements. These ribbons are also fancy but simple ways to map out your layout.

Ample space: The best basic layout design should be able to fit in two standard sized photographs with room for text and written messages. Also have ample space for things like your baby's hand and foot print, or maybe the first bib. For scrapbookers interested in fancier designs, you can choose albums with unique shapes. Some albums are circular, which may be a creative challenge to the scrapbook artist. Others, on the other hand, prefer shapes such as the triangles that are more complex and more fun to decorate for the seasoned scrapbook artist.

Whatever form your layout ideas take, be sure that it is something that you will enjoy over the years as you child grows.
