Paper is the background or backdrop for each page in your scrapbook, therefore choosing the right paper is a very important decision. You want paper that is acid and lignin free, as well as paper that has a high archival quality and has the proper PH level. Below we’ll discuss what each of these terms mean and why they’re important for your scrapbook.

Acid Free

Have you ever noticed how an old photo fades and turns yellow? This is because the paper it’s printed on contains acid. The acid is removed during the paper processing, making it “acid free”.

Lignin

What is lignin and how does it affect photos and the paper they’re on? Lignin is the natural element that holds wood fibers together. Have you ever noticed how quickly a newspaper turns yellow and starts to look frayed? This is because the paper contains lignin. Like acid, lignin can also be removed during the processing of the paper.

If you want to include newspaper articles or prints in your scrapbook, copy them onto off-white acid and lignin paper for an authentic look. This will help preserve the precious memories without ruining your pictures.

Buffered paper

Buffered paper is created by paper manufacturers adding a buffering agent such as calcium carbonate or magnesium bicarbonate to neutralize contaminates. Buffered papers have a PH of 8.5.

PH level

Speaking of PH, the PH factor refers to the acidity of the paper. Acid free papers have a PH of 7 or above.

Archival Quality

Another term you’ll often see on scrapbook paper is “archival quality”. Archival quality is a term used to indicate paper that has undergone laboratory analysis to determine whether the acidic and buffered content is within safe levels.

Where to find Quality Scrapbook Paper

The paper you use in your scrapbook is the foundation for your pictures, memorabilia, embellishments and journaling. This is why it’s so important to choose the right paper for your scrapbook.

Here at My Scrapbooking Supplies, I promise that the paper I promote on this site is acid and lignin free, of high archival quality and has the proper PH level.

For a great selection of paper, including different patterns, colors, textures and designs, see the Scrapbooking Paper on Ebay Now page. Not only will you find a huge selection of high quality scrapbooking paper, you’ll also get a great deal.

As any avid scrapbooker knows, paper storage can be a real problem. Especially since many individuals that enjoy this craft will pick up papers on a whim. If there is a great page, accessory, sticker, or other item that catches the eye, most won’t think twice about picking it up. This happens even when there is no idea how the page will be used. This is because many times pages are only available temporarily and good paper may not be there when you are ready to use it.

By stocking up on supplies ahead of time, it makes scrapbooking easier and quicker. Whenever the individual is ready to work, they have all the supplies they need and don’t have to run out and look for them. The problem is with trying to store all these items.

Scrapbook paper storage can be difficult, especially since many scrapbooks come in squares such as 8X8 or 12X12. This makes traditional paper storing methods impossible. However, with the right tools and accessories, these pages can be stored safely without ruining them. One option for storage is wall mounted shelves. These are similar to the shelves found in many craft stores that display the paper right on the wall. This is ideal if you have a room or area that is dedicated to the craft. However, these papers will still be exposed to light, moisture, and other elements.

Other scrapbook paper storage options include accordion style file folders. These folders stretch open to allow easy storage without ripping or tearing the paper. They are found in many craft stores and can store up to 500 sheets of paper. Then they can be stored neatly on a desk or bookshelf, under the bed, or in any nook or cranny you can fit it. Since they buckle shut there is no worry that they will spill out. They can also be used to store embellishments, cutouts, card stock, and other paper items in one easy convenient location.

Another fantastic option is using plastic paper organizers. These are similar to page protectors that are used in binders. While they don’t clip into a binder, these protectors are great for placing papers and then storing them on a shelf. For those that like to purchase packs of theme pages, the paper organizers offer an area to place labels. These are a fantastic option to protect the paper, save space, and organize the paper for ease of use. Placed within easy reach of the project area, these can cut down on time.

Nothing is worse than looking for the perfect paper to compliment your theme and finding out it is ripped or torn. That is why scrapbook paper storage is so important. Square sheets of paper can be difficult to store but there are options available. Now pages can be organized easily so that they can be found quickly and used when they are needed. With label options there is no need to peruse several folders or cabinets for one sheet. Just place like themes in the organizer together, label, and then finding them is a snap.

Scrapbooking with ribbon by: Ana White

If you’re looking for an affordable yet versatile way to embellish your layouts, consider creating a scrapbook with ribbon. I love using ribbon on my scrapbook pages. It is a fun and fancy way of adding a bit of texture to my pages. There are so many possibilities when using ribbon that I will just show you a few different things you can do.

On this next page, I placed the ribbon and fibers on the lines of the patterned paper to give it a bit of dimension.

Finally on this last example, I used some ribbon to make flowers.

Those are just a few examples of how I use ribbon. Yet there are many many more ways to use ribbon and fibers. What are some of your favorite ways to use ribbon?

Materials used:

American Crafts Ribbon

I love the theme for this month being all about love. I discovered this adorable product line by ADORNit. Owls have been so hot and popular this year.

I work full time and my husband works away from home 4 days a week. I have two boys under the age of 5. So when I think scrapbooking I think quick, time savers that look sharp. So when a company puts together a product line that matches, I go nuts!!! You'll see how quick and easy this double layout goes together.

I selected to use the Owl Hoot A and cut it into two separate pieces. I used my Provo Craft 12 inch trimmer a good bit. After I selected my pictures I chose which elements out of the Owl kit I wanted to use. I had 3 sheets of designer paper, 3 sheets of Bazzill card stock. a sheet of card stock stickers, and 12 inches of matching ribbon.

I used my Glue Glilder Pro for my adhesive to adhere my ribbon, pictures and paper.

I used s.e.i brads and the ADORNit Owl ribbon to accent along with the coordinating stickers.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I hope you were able to see how with so few products you can create wonderful, fun layouts. I only invested about $9.00 into these products and I was able to get another double page layout out of the kit. PLUS I still have enough left over to do another 1 page layout or create a card with the scraps.

I have always been inspired and eager to try this fun technique: Paper stitching ! I have made many pages and cards using handwritten stitching so this week I took my love for this stitch look to a new level to sewing machine stitching. For some scrapper this may a breeze but for others this may be the new technique you need to learn for the week either way I hope you enjoy and find it helpful. Let's get started !

Supplies I used:

Sewing Machine ~ Sew Crafty Mini by Provo Craft

Pattern papers ~ Bo Bunny

Coordinating Cardstock ~ Bazzill

Stick and rub on title

Adhesive

Photos

Now first things first: it is best that when you plan your layout look at you paper and photos a line them where you would like them to go before adding adhesive or sewing them to your background. For my layout I started with my base (background cardstock) and layered my pattern paper pieces that coordinated well and matched my pages theme. Double-sided sheet works well with the technique of layering sheets this way you can alternate patterns and not worry if they coordinate well or not.

Next I started to adhere my paper pieces by adding adhesive only to the middle of my papers away from the edge of the base where I intend to sew my stitching. Reason being you ask? Well with machine stitching you will need to add a little to prevent your layers from slipping or buckling, on the other hand the adhesive cause the needle to become sticking or damaged for future use. This is another reason you should plan you page before adhering your papers to your background.

Before we begin let's discuss sewing machines, for this project I used Provo crafts Sew craft mini machine so my stitching patterns and option are very simple. After using it for this project I would only recommend this machine for cards and thins layers of papers. Now if you own a more diverse machine your stitching options are much wider to use but weather you are a skilled seamstress or just a beginner I would recommend a Janome sew mini. This machine is compact and is very easy to use see a demo here, I would saw it is excellent for a paper crafter's need to sew on their projects.

After you have your machine set to the setting and stitching of chose lets begin to stitch our page, my stitching on my page is not straight but I love the look you get when you use different kinds of stitching on the same design. So Don't be afraid to experiment! I prefer the double stitch and out of order look again you can stitch as much or as little as you like. The straight stitch and zig-zag are the most commonly used when sewing. Now onto your sewing simply start sewing by lowering your presser foot and start sewing.I continued my stitching around my page creating a frame look that worked perfectly with my page. From here you can add your photos and finishing embellishment for a fabulous layout.

Final Thoughts: I really hope you find this easy and helpful to follow, if you did enjoy it or maybe you tried this technique don't be shy share it with us we will love to see your work or hear about thanks for stopping by!

Feeling inspired by my surrounds I have started my Christmas card-making. Right now some of you are feeling one of two ways about you Christmas cards: either you want to make them (because this is your thing ) like me, or you feel like it's expected by your family since they know you are the craft lover. I can tell you guys this is my thing: I love it! I get to do it once a year, so why not? I love this time of year it really gives me the opportunity to put my layouts aside and put my card-making skills to the test. Today I have a few cards to help get you started !

My Thoughts

Today for my designs I used these beautiful double sided papers from the Basic Grey‘s Eskimo Kisses collection. I am usually a tradition red and green type of person but after seen this collection with the pinks and purples I have changed my ways. As you can see with using this collection I made a few different styles elegant and a traditional card to satisfy my old ways. I really enjoyed the versatility of the double sided paper which I am a huge fan of. I think with double sided paper it's like get two coordinating sheets in one, which takes all the guesswork out and keep you creative. Another good thing about this collection is you can use it for Christmas or winter cards and layouts.

Quick tip: This year save time scrapbooking your Holiday events by scrapbooking each event into a 1 or 2 scrapbook page layout. A really simple way to achieve this would be to consider changing the sizes of your photos. Use more 2x2, 3x3, 2x4, 3x4 combination then the normal 4x6 .

I have fallen in love with all the fall colors, the wood grain papers, and the little critters are just too cute. I am a huge fan of double side pattern papers with fun colors so this line was prefect for all my Fall creations, the font of the Alphabet is fun and squiggly: love it! Was there anything I can honestly say I didn't like about this collection? NO !!

This is a fun little album I that I will be sending to my mom after I have finished adding developing and adhering all of our family events and pictures from Fall. These little albums are very cute and make wonderful display pieces for your office desk or craft table.

I used a chipboard album from Michael’s Craft store this week but you could use plain shape albums or words albums your possibilities for a chipboard album is endless. Your pattern paper are up to you as while they have some really hot Fall/Thanksgiving kit out that would make great albums.

Take your album out the package and remove the metal ring. Now the next step is totally up to you but today I will be using acrylic paint to cover my chipboard but you can use pattern papers or inks it is totally up to you.

Cover the chipboard pieces front and back, you can cover this as thin or as thick as you like. I have added a thin coat on the front and back.

Now let each pieces dry since I used a thin coat it took about 30 mins to dry. From here you can add a second coat or you can start embellishing the chipboard pieces.

Here I have started with my Title page I have added my desired papers and for embellishments I have added ribbon, flowers, a Basic Grey Chip Shapes from the Periphery Collection. Have fun and embellish the way you would like you can never add to much or use to little. Some things I would suggest for you to use pop up dots for extra dimension, use die cuts and stickers for your page accents.

You're almost done! To finish line your album pages together and then add you metal ring, after you have added the ring to add more details to the ring add pieces of ribbon and fibers.
