Being in the military is a lifestyle all its own. You might be a service personnel or the parent, spouse or child of someone in the armed forces. The military life touches everyone who loves someone serving in any one of the service branches whether it is the Marines, Navy, Army, Air Force, or National Guard. Military scrapbooking ideas all start with how the military life affects you.

Scrapbooking Ideas for Military Personnel

As a member of the armed forces, you will want to preserve and document your military experience. Recording your memories of your service years is important not only for yourself, but also for your children and future generations. Your years in the service are not only personal, but they document our national history as well. You might have served in a war or responded to a national crisis. Preserving your memories of those experiences will tell others your first-person account of a moment in history.

Items to Include In Your Military Scrapbook

Your service documents including your enlistment application

Newspaper articles

Photos of you receiving recognition

Photos of returning home from a duty station

Photos of your military friends

Photos of your service stations

A time line of your years in service, including where and when you served

Pages or quotes from your personal journal, including your hopes, fears, and thoughts

Information on the training you received, including when and where you received training

Photos of boot camp, including your graduation

Awards and recognition with journaling on how, when and why you received them

Photos of your metals and ribbons including how, when and why you received these honors

Highlights of your military career

Photos of ceremonies you participated in

Your retirement party

Scrapbooking for Family Members of Military Personnel

Is someone you love in the armed forces? You may want to document their military career for them, or create a scrapbook about how that person's military life affected you. Being the spouse, child or parent of someone in the military, you will have your own thoughts, fears, feelings and hopes about his/her military life. Your scrapbook can be a gift for the military personnel or for someone else in their family, like a son or daughter. It also can be an account of how military life affected your own life experiences.

Items for Family Members to Include in a Military Scrapbook

Photos of you with your loved one in the service

Farewell photos

Homecoming photos

Journaling of your feelings about being part of a military family

Moving day photos from one service station community to another

Letters or emails written from your loved one in the armed forces

Photos of military family events like picnics or formal parties

Newspaper articles

Scrapbooking companies are responding to the huge demand for military scrapbooking supplies. You can find albums with armed forces emblems on the cover. Stickers and embellishments relating to the military service are also available. However, it's your own personal photos and journaling that will create a military scrapbook that will become a legacy to future generations.

Christine Perry is an avid scrapbooker and has over 10 years of scrapbooking experience. Her favorite scrapbooking subjects are her reluctant teenagers. She invites you to her website, http://www.intoscrapbooking.com for more scrapbooking ideas and scrapbooking ideas with kids.

Many of us have friends and family serving our country, and what better way to preserve their memories than some special military scrapbook pages.

Here are some military scrapbooking supplies that will come in handy when you want to create a page to honor your loved ones serving: lasercuts, diecuts, stickers and paper.

The school year is coming to an end and I have taken on the exciting tasking for my kiddos first year in school. I know as mothers we want to save every picture and homework assignment our kids complete but honestly who really has the space for it. I have scanned all of my favorite picture and assignment and reports of both of my kids and saved it in a folder. Now that the school year is ending it is time for me to put my plan in to play.

Cricut has several school cartridges available for shapes they have the Locker Talk Cartridge, for fonts they have Plantin SchoolBook Cardridge and Makin the grade. Lastly they have a whole Classmate Cartridge sets that I think is great for teachers to have for their classrooms.

Today I will share with you a layout that I have created using the Cricut cartridge Makin the Grade. I really enjoyed using this cartridge it was the prefect cartridge to use for this project. The three shapes that pushed me to buy this cartridge was the star, reward ribbon and apple.

Here is the First Day of School layout that I created using this cartridge.

For this layout I used green pigment ink and white acrylic paint for the scallop paper from creative imagination school collection, school brads from Ki memories, and pattern paper from Bo Bunny Pep rally strips and scrap pieces of coordinating cardstock. My Cricut elements are the stars and title fonts.

Thank you so much for stopping by I hope you enjoyed this fun layout , if you have designed a layout of card using the cricut cartridge please share we would love to see your work. Have a wonderful week!!

I have always been inspired and eager to try this fun technique: Paper stitching ! I have made many pages and cards using handwritten stitching so this week I took my love for this stitch look to a new level to sewing machine stitching. For some scrapper this may a breeze but for others this may be the new technique you need to learn for the week either way I hope you enjoy and find it helpful. Let's get started !

Supplies I used:

Sewing Machine ~ Sew Crafty Mini by Provo Craft

Pattern papers ~ Bo Bunny

Coordinating Cardstock ~ Bazzill

Stick and rub on title

Adhesive

Photos

Now first things first: it is best that when you plan your layout look at you paper and photos a line them where you would like them to go before adding adhesive or sewing them to your background. For my layout I started with my base (background cardstock) and layered my pattern paper pieces that coordinated well and matched my pages theme. Double-sided sheet works well with the technique of layering sheets this way you can alternate patterns and not worry if they coordinate well or not.

Next I started to adhere my paper pieces by adding adhesive only to the middle of my papers away from the edge of the base where I intend to sew my stitching. Reason being you ask? Well with machine stitching you will need to add a little to prevent your layers from slipping or buckling, on the other hand the adhesive cause the needle to become sticking or damaged for future use. This is another reason you should plan you page before adhering your papers to your background.

Before we begin let's discuss sewing machines, for this project I used Provo crafts Sew craft mini machine so my stitching patterns and option are very simple. After using it for this project I would only recommend this machine for cards and thins layers of papers. Now if you own a more diverse machine your stitching options are much wider to use but weather you are a skilled seamstress or just a beginner I would recommend a Janome sew mini. This machine is compact and is very easy to use see a demo here, I would saw it is excellent for a paper crafter's need to sew on their projects.

After you have your machine set to the setting and stitching of chose lets begin to stitch our page, my stitching on my page is not straight but I love the look you get when you use different kinds of stitching on the same design. So Don't be afraid to experiment! I prefer the double stitch and out of order look again you can stitch as much or as little as you like. The straight stitch and zig-zag are the most commonly used when sewing. Now onto your sewing simply start sewing by lowering your presser foot and start sewing.I continued my stitching around my page creating a frame look that worked perfectly with my page. From here you can add your photos and finishing embellishment for a fabulous layout.

Final Thoughts: I really hope you find this easy and helpful to follow, if you did enjoy it or maybe you tried this technique don't be shy share it with us we will love to see your work or hear about thanks for stopping by!

For a chance to win this awesome prize!

Hello everyone and TGIF! This week I will be sharing with you a Christmas layout that is simple to create and shows you how one photo can be the essence of your layout. Just by adding a few embellishments and title I have made this a gorgeous Christmas theme layout using a 5x7 photo.

For this layout I used a 5x7 photo of my daughter, double matted the photo in coordinating blue and cranberry cardstock. Created a red ribbon border using three large white brads and a 3-D K and Company chipboard Christmas accent. The photo is off-centered to the lower right corner of the designer paper and accented with coordinating red, blue and white felt snowflakes, which add texture to my layout.

Feeling inspired by my surrounds I have started my Christmas card-making. Right now some of you are feeling one of two ways about you Christmas cards: either you want to make them (because this is your thing ) like me, or you feel like it's expected by your family since they know you are the craft lover. I can tell you guys this is my thing: I love it! I get to do it once a year, so why not? I love this time of year it really gives me the opportunity to put my layouts aside and put my card-making skills to the test. Today I have a few cards to help get you started !

Merry Christmas

Featured Product: Basic Grey‘s Eskimo Kisses

My Thoughts

Today for my designs I used these beautiful double sided papers from the Basic Grey‘s Eskimo Kisses collection. I am usually a tradition red and green type of person but after seen this collection with the pinks and purples I have changed my ways. As you can see with using this collection I made a few different styles elegant and a traditional card to satisfy my old ways. I really enjoyed the versatility of the double sided paper which I am a huge fan of. I think with double sided paper it's like get two coordinating sheets in one, which takes all the guesswork out and keep you creative. Another good thing about this collection is you can use it for Christmas or winter cards and layouts.

Quick tip: This year save time scrapbooking your Holiday events by scrapbooking each event into a 1 or 2 scrapbook page layout. A really simple way to achieve this would be to consider changing the sizes of your photos. Use more 2x2, 3x3, 2x4, 3x4 combination then the normal 4x6 .

Sports themes are a great idea for scrapbooks and soccer is no exception. If you play soccer or have a child who plays soccer, then this is a great opportunity to do something special to keep those memories preserved for a long time to come. A sports-themed layout is a great way to take your soccer photos and turn them into something special.

No matter what layout or theme you choose for your scrapbook, it will be extra special when you make it yourself. This can be great fun to do and especially fun to do together with your child. A child of any age who plays soccer can enjoy making a scrapbook with you to preserve their memories.

Your soccer theme might revolve around the player themselves with some snapshots of the team and other players thrown in. If you have a player who has been playing for a number of years, your theme could show them over several seasons of soccer play.

Another option for your soccer scrapbook theme is to represent the whole team and decorate the scrapbook in team colors and logo. You might go for a general soccer theme where you include all of your favorite photos and a real smorgasbord of soccer designs and themes.

You might choose to give each page a title and them work the theme on an individual page basis around this title. For example, it might show player MVP, rising star, championship game or other special events. You can frame photos with soccer themed words such as MVP, goal, get in the game and more.

Depending on the size of your scrapbook, each page might have 2-5 photos or more on it. You can use posed shots and candid shots as well as sports cards and other memorabilia. You might include the child’s favorite professional player in the scrapbook as well.

You can get members of the team to sign the scrapbook or write special notes to be placed inside the book. Whenever your child looks back on this later in life, they will remember each friend and teammate they had as well as fun activities that took place during the season and their favorite games.

You can use colors, stickers, words and phrases and sayings to add to and accentuate your memories but remember that they should not overshadow or upstage your actual photos, which are the meat of the memories you will find in your scrapbook.
