If you love scrapbooking, you might have a lot of ideas for what and how you can make scrapbooks to last for many years to come. They become some of the most treasured items any family will ever have in their possession. You might even pass them on for many generations. So what’s one great scrapbook idea you can do which will last?

You can try to scrapbook a family tree! This will require some time and research but it might even be a project you want to take on with the whole family. Your research will be very important first but the good news is the Internet now makes family tree research easier than ever before.

You will also want to gather your supplies ahead of time. You don’t want to get into the creative process only to discover that you’re missing something you need to complete your family tree. If you don’t already have the tools needed to create a scrapbook, it’s easy to pick up the basics, even on a budget.

You might want to plan your project before you gather the supplies, this way you have a better idea of what you actually need. If you are missing tools or essentials, you might ask friends or family members if you can borrow theirs or even have a scrapbook party and allow everyone to bring their own supplies so together, you have many more options to choose from.

Be sure to label everything properly in your family tree scrapbook so that your family and future generations will know who everyone is. Whether your scrapbook is just a couple of small pages or an entire book full of pages, you should store it properly, display it properly and then be proud to share it with others.

Not only is this an example of your handiwork but it’s also a great family heirloom. It’s an opportunity to learn about your family and to spread this knowledge to other family members. This should be a fun and creative experience but it’s also a learning experience and something you can pass down to your children and other family members as time goes on.

BRRR... It's been cold around here for the past few days, and we are totally snowed in. So, I thought about how wonderful this time of the year is for scrappers. It's a great activity for those cold days when you're curled up next to the fire. And with all the snowy fun and holiday festivities going on, you should have plenty of pictures to work with.

Coming up with great winter layouts can be a bit of a challenge, though. The bright colors you used in the spring and summer don't quite fit, nor do many of the nature-inspired embellishments you would use in other seasons. But there is inspiration to be found. Here are some layout theme ideas to get you going:

Snowmen - The snowman is a popular winter figure that adds a whimsical touch to your scrapbooking. You could create an adorable layout by cutting pictures into circles of three different sizes and stacking them on top of one another like a snowman. A border featuring snowmen also makes a nice frame for photos of winter fun.

Snowflakes - They say that no two snowflakes are exactly alike, so a snowflake layout is anything but boring. Why not make some paper snowflakes or have your child make them), arrange them on the page, and place photos in the middle of them?

Candy canes - The candy cane stripe pattern is symbolic of winter and the holidays. Using it as a backdrop or in borders makes for a fun page. How about making a heart-shaped photo frame with two candy cane die cuts?

Winter scenes - A nice winter scene is great for the background of a scrapbook page. It expresses the beauty of the season without taking the attention away from your photos. A beautiful and easy way to create such a layout is to use photo editing software to fade and soften a picture of a winter landscape, then print it onto a piece of card stock.

Winter scrapbook layouts are often more muted than those of other seasons, but they do not have to be colorless and boring. Splashes of red and green can spruce up pages while maintaining a winter ambiance. Blues and purples are also good choices for the season.

Scrapping your snow-filled memories is a fun way to pass the time during chilly weather. With some fun and creative layouts, you can give your winter photos the beautiful presentation they deserve.

Do you have any LO featuring the above idea? Leave a link in the comments area so we can all see and get inspired.

Scrapbookers often find ideas for their albums in the changing seasons. In the fall, the shapes and colors of the falling leaves, harvest crops and blooming flowers provide lots of great ideas that we can incorporate into our scrapbooks. Here are some ways you can work the season into the various elements of your page.

Colors

Orange is a color that's certainly not hard to find in the fall. It's on pumpkins, falling leaves, and many fall flowers. It's symbolic of Halloween, and is also used in many Thanksgiving decorations. Yellow is also found in lots of fall items. These two colors can work as backgrounds in some layouts, but in most cases they're best reserved for embellishments and borders unless they are muted.

Brown is another fall favorite. It is associated with Thanksgiving turkey, pinecones, and more. Brown makes a good background color, because it will not draw attention away from the photos.

Titles

Incorporating the feel of the season into your pages extends to your page titles as well. Whether your tone is serious or whimsical, you can find inspiration for your page titles in the beauty that surrounds you.

"Leaf" and "leaves" are good words to work into puns for your titles. A page about one special person could be entitled "The Apple of My Eye." Harvest themes and autumn colors can also provide good title ideas.

Embellishments

No scrapbook is complete without embellishments, and there are plenty of great ideas from nature in the fall. The brightly colored leaves are favorites in all types of fall design, and leaf motifs look great in a scrapbook. But as tempting as it may be, it's best not to use real leaves in your pages. They just do not stand up to time very well, even when they are carefully preserved.

Pumpkin and squash die cuts, brads and stickers are perfect for a harvest theme. Items featuring apples, pears and berries are also great as embellishments. For Halloween and Thanksgiving, you can find all sorts of stamps and die cuts to choose from.

Photos

The most important things in any scrapbook are the photos. While using colors, titles and embellishments can create a fall atmosphere for your pages, capturing the season in your photos is the best way to make your scrapbook truly memorable.

Taking pictures outdoors when possible can add a touch of autumn without a great deal of effort. If you're working with kids, get some candid shots of them jumping in the leaf pile. Or get a picture of your little one with the biggest pumpkin from the patch. These are memories that are sure to be cherished for years to come, and that's what scrapbooking is all about.

One of the most important parts of your scrapbooks is the journaling process. This is how you add your emotional responses to your photos and your experience which your scrapbook represents. The journaling process is what changes the scrapbook from an ordinary photo album.

There are different types of journaling techniques you can take with your scrapbooks. Different books and themes will call for different types of page journaling. Every page or nearly every page will need to have some type of journaling on it.

Here are some things to do and keep in mind when journaling for your scrapbooks:

Add memories of the event

Add quotes from the day

Add captions or “text bubbles” to your photos

Use famous quotes or song lyrics

Add doodles and other designs by hand

These are just a few ways to make the journaling process more personal in your scrapbooks. Some of your layouts will have a great flow to them and the journaling process will just seem to come naturally. Other times, you might seem to have a harder time thinking of what to say and what to write. This is when you’re going to need your creative juices flowing a little more.

The type of scrapbook you have will have an impact on the type of journaling you do. There are just some cases where too much journaling will take away from the theme and overall feel of the scrapbook. This is when it might be better to use quotes and phrases and keep it short and sweet.

Now that you know more about page journaling in your scrapbooks, you are ready to give it a shot with the very next scrapbook you keep. If you’re going on vacation or participating in some type of event that you plan to scrapbook later, you might want to jot down thoughts and details as you go so it will be easier to journal later in your scrapbook.

Did you know that there are many great free scrapbook software options out there? If you want to make the most of your digital scrapbooks, or if you’ve been looking for something special for yourself for a while now, free digital scrapbook software may be just the thing.

There are several free digital scrapbook software offers out there but they are not created equal. Your first step should be to do some research. You need to look at what’s available as well as what other scrapbookers have to save about them. What kind of ratings and reviews do a specific software program get? This will help you in making your own decision about which scrapbook software you want to download and try.

It can also greatly help the research process if you know what types of features you’re looking for. What do you want to do with your digital scrapbook? What features are most important to you? Digital scrapbook software can give you access to thousands of background pages, printable designs and much more. You can also get new ways to share your digital scrapbook with others.

You don’t have to be an Internet guru to pick up on most of these software programs or on digital scrapbooking. They are designed to be easy to manipulate and figure out, even for those who are new to the Internet. The more user-friendly a software program is for scrapbookers, the higher the ratings are likely to be on it. See what other people are saying and it will help you find the right program for your needs.

Since free software is well, free, you’re not risking anything by downloading it and trying it out. Just make sure you always run virus scans on it and only download from trusted sites. If you decide you don’t like a particular free software, be sure to uninstall it (not just delete the icon) from your computer so it is not taking up space.

Now that you are armed with this information, you’re ready to delve into the world of online scrapbooking with some new tools. This will make your job easier and more fun so you can enjoy all that digital scrapbooking has to offer.

If you put a lot of time and energy into creating your scrapbooks, one of the most important things you need to know is how to preserve them. Part of the point of creating a scrapbook is to make sure it lasts for you. You want your scrapbook to remain great looking over time.

However, there are some things you could be using that are slowly destroying your scrapbooks. If you want to keep them looking just as good today as they did the day you made them, then you want to use these tips. First, the type of paper you use will be very important.

You want to avoid paper that isn’t lignin-free. Paper with lignin is made from the stiff components of the plant that actually holds it together. However, over time it will start to turn brown so when used in scrapbooking, it can also cause the photos, fabric, other paper and anything else it comes into contact with to turn brown.
Speaking of fabric, you also want to be sure you use only acid-free fabrics in your scrapbooks and avoid silk, tie-dye and any other fabrics with acid. If you do use acid fabrics, make sure you place them where the photos will not directly come into contact with the fabrics.

You also need to remember that the dyes in some fabrics can bleed onto other pages over time and can ruin photos that are on opposing pages. Also be cautious of decorative additions like glitter. If you’re going to use glitter, make sure it’s a glitter-glue approved for scrapbooking or that you place a top layer of adhesive on your glitter to help preserve it to the page.

Also use acid-free mounting adhesive for your photos so they will remain looking good for many years to come. When you follow these tips, you can preserve your scrapbooks for many years.

Scrapbooking is easily becoming a favorite American pastime. If you're looking for something that will make an extra special gift, consider a scrapbook made for someone you love or give them a scrapbook kit so they can make their own memorable scrapbook.

This is a great gift for multiple reasons:

It contains memories that will last for many years to come

It's thoughtful and shows that you really care about the person

It can be fun to create and make

Making your own scrapbook is a real heart-felt gift that shows you put the time and attention needed into a special gift. It can also be more affordable than scrapbooks purchased from a company. Scrapbook supplies are fairly inexpensive and you can use many things that you already have lying around anyway.

Scrapbooks make perfect gifts because they show a lot of thought and love was put into them. The person can keep memories alive for many years with a great scrapbook. In addition to the memories inside the scrapbook, there are also the memories of you and this special occasion that you gave it to them for.

It's also a great versatile gift choice. They work for males and females of all ages and you can guarantee they won't already have one like this since every creation is unique. Some examples of good events or occasions to give a scrapbook as a present are wedding anniversaries, graduations, birthdays and even Christmas.

There are many great things that can go into the scrapbook. For example, you might feature photos of an anniversary couple together or get heartfelt letters from friends and family to place inside the scrapbook.

Tokens and items of the event or occasion can be placed inside and you might want to leave some blank pages in the back so they can add the celebration event to their scrapbook gift. You can make this easier by taking some pictures of the receiver opening their gift and other celebrations and give them to them later.

With these tips, you can easily see why scrapbooks make perfect gifts and now you have a little more insight into how you can use them yourself for upcoming gifts or holidays.

Scrapbooking is one of the fastest growing and most popular hobbies around. There are so many great aspects of scrapbooking that people of all ages and all walks of life are choosing to participate.

However, when you first get started, there are only a few things that are really important and they can also be purchased for an affordable price so it doesn’t have to cost a lot to get started in scrapbooking.

Here are some of the basic elements you’re going to need to get started:

Photos - you will need to have pictures that you have taken from the event or theme that you want to do your scrapbook on. Be sure you keep your photos in a safe place where they will be protected until you are ready to place them into your scrapbooks.

Album/ book - You can use a photo album, a special scrapbook, a notebook or binder or any other style of album to add your pages to and create the perfect scrapbook.

Page protectors - These are used to hold your pages into the album and to protect the pages from spills, dust and even fingerprints.

Paper trimmers - You will want to get one that is capable of cutting cardstock since this is the most popular type of paper and these trimmers will be capable of handling anything else you want to use them for.

Adhesive - There are many type of adhesive such as glue sticks, photo mounts or two-sided tape that you can use to keep the components of your album together. The type you choose doesn’t really matter as long as you use something safe for your photos and acid-free.

Be sure you use cardstock, archival quality paper that is acid-free and lignin-free.

Choosing pens and markers made specifically for scrapbooking is a good choice.

Creativity - A little creativity will take you a long way when it comes to your scrapbook. The more scrapbooks you do, the more creative ideas you will come up with. You will find your creativity growing and expanding over time.

This is your chance to preserve your memories however you choose that is special to you.
